Pedaling East
A Note Before I Ride Out
In a few weeks, I’ll begin riding my e-bike, along the Great American Wheel Route, eastbound from Ellensburg, Washington. The plan is to cross the country slowly — one day, one campground, one café table at a time.

Some of you followed along years ago when I walked the Camino de Santiago and later along the coast of the UK. This ride feels like a continuation of those journeys: slower travel, paying attention, meeting people, weather, small towns, fatigue, joy, occasional bad decisions, and hopefully a little wisdom.
I’ve decided to keep a simple journal here on Substack so friends and family can follow along if they’d like. I expect the entries will include photographs, campsites, battery math, trail conditions, reflections from picnic tables, and whatever the road decides to hand me that day.
This is not a commercial project, an influencer project, or social media in disguise. It’s simply a travel journal shared outward.
If you’d like to follow along, you can “subscribe” below. That only means you’ll receive an email notification when I post a new entry. There is no cost and no expectation.
Some days may produce long entries. Some days may produce only a photograph and a sentence. I’m trying to leave room for the ride itself.
I roll out soon.
Patrice
P.S. I’m a new poster to Substack, so bear with me while I work out the kinks.

So happy to follow you on this journey! Thanks for the privilege! Muhammad was wrong-you’re definitely smart enough 😊
Can't wait to ride along with you via your posts. Be safe and carry my love with you. XXX
